Phil Barish, Senior Alliance Manager

Philip works closely with OHSU investigators and university startups during the early stages of commercialization. He leverages his prior startup expertise to provide strategic guidance on technology development, team building, fundraising, and networking within the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Philip also manages the OHSU Entrepreneur-in-Residence program as well as the startup track of the IDEA fund.

Philip earned his Ph.D. at the University of Florida and his B.S.E. from Tulane University, both in biomedical engineering. He relocated to Portland to join Absci, where he held executive leadership roles in R&D, operations, and business development. While at Absci, he scaled the company to over 35 employees, raised multiple venture-backed financing rounds, and managed development of the core biomanufacturing technology from proof-of-concept through commercial partnership. Philip also worked at Biomed Diagnostic, where he helped launch critical Covid testing products to supply local hospital systems. He was recognized as an up-and-coming business community leader in 2018 by the Portland Business Journal (Forty Under 40) and in 2019 by the University of Florida (40 Gators Under 40).

Philip is an avid traveler and spends his free time exploring the natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest with his wife and dog.
