OHSU research center seeks research engineer with technical proficiency and passion

The Center for Health Systems Effectiveness is now accepting applications for a research engineer.

The Research Engineer provides high-level professional support in analytic activities at the OHSU Center for Health Systems Effectiveness.

This individual will participate in the design, data management, analysis and dissemination of findings for a variety of health services research projects. Major components of the work include:

  • Working independently under the direction of Principal Investigators and other CHSE staff to design, manage, implement and interpret statistical analyses focused on healthcare expenditures, utilization and quality
  • Management of very large administrative health insurance claims datasets
  • Data management and statistical analysis using R and Python
  • Development of validation processes to ensure data quality
  • Automating analyses and ETL operations
  • Building processes to leverage grid computing and cloud-based computing resources
  • Rigorous documentation of methods and other practices that ensure reproducibility of results
  • Innovation and problem-solving at all stages of research
  • Contribution to development of project deliverables via writing, interpretation of results, creation of compelling data visualizations and editing
  • A commitment to continuing education and self-improvement as well as participation in cross-education and knowledge sharing with other staff via trainings and presentations
