What is this study about and why is it being done?

We are seeking participants for a study of menstruating individuals with and without heavy menstrual bleeding. The purpose of this study is to learn more about the biological causes of Endometrial Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (AUB-E) and why some people experience it while others do not. AUB-E is a type of heavy menstrual bleeding that is caused by problems with the lining of the uterus. We hope to use what we learn in this study to understand AUB-E and to help increase the number of treatment options and tests available for heavy periods. Participation in this study will last 2-4 menstrual cycles and involve 2 to 3 in-person study visits. Participants will also be asked to complete a Pictorial Blood Assessment Chart (PBAC) to track vaginal bleeding and complete urine ovulation tests at home. Study procedures include an endometrial biopsy (tissue sample from the lining of the uterus), a transvaginal (pelvic) ultrasound, two blood draws, and review of any medications taken or changes in your health.

Eligibility:

• Between age 18-45 years of age
• Have regular menstrual cycles (21-35 days) lasting approximately the same number of days each month
• Willing to use study-provided disposable pads and tampons for one period
• Willing to complete a paper diary noting the number of pads and tampons used over one menstrual cycle
• Willing to refrain from sexual intercourse with someone who can get you pregnant for two weeks

Compensation

Participants will be compensated up to $400 for the study visits that they attend.
