Dr. Brain Tully's

Congratulations to Dr. Brian Tully whose poster was accepted to be presented at the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) annual meeting. The poster displays a case report of a patient with an ICD undergoing non-cardiac surgery with an underbody dispersive electrode (Megadyne) who experienced EMI intraoperatively despite surgery below the umbilicus. The EMI was noted on ECG and the underbody electrode was changed to a traditional dispersive electrode on the thigh without further EMI or complications. There is only one study (by Dr. Schulman actually) that looks at the safety of the underbody dispersive electrode in patients undergoing cardiac surgery specifically and clinical guidance by professional societies (ASA/HRS) do not comment on its safety.
