The entire 650,000-square-foot complex on Portland’s South Waterfront consists of two parts: the 12-story Skourtes Tower on the north and a five-story south wing connected by an atrium, along with underground parking. It includes lecture halls, classrooms labs, specialty research centers, OHSU School of Dentistry facilities, and offices for health professionals and educators from multiple institutions.
The building includes approximately 185,000 square feet of teaching space, 85,000 square feet of research space, 7,500 square feet for retail and food service activities, 16,000 square feet for building support and 430 new parking spaces, in addition to the atrium, open areas and walkways.
The design features suspended walkways connecting the disciplines, copious natural light, and communal spaces with panoramic views of the Willamette River, Mt. Hood and east Portland. The building received a LEED Platinum certification because of sustainable features that include green roofs, storm water collection for non-potable water uses throughout the building, and energy-efficient lighting and climate control.
