Leica EM VCM Vacuum Cryo Manipulation System

The Leica EM VCM allows cryo samples to be transferred and manipulated under LN2 and connects with the Leica EM VCT500 to provide sample transfer to and from other instruments under vacuum at cryo temperature. This transfer station is equipped with a magnifier, built-in illumination, and tool dryer. The VCM is capable of automated LN2 refilling to minimize ice formation and contamination of samples.

Leica EM ACE600

Two Leica EM ACE600 sputter coaters  are available for use in the MMC. Both coaters are capable of thin, fine-grained conductive coatings of either carbon or metal. The room temperature model is equipped with carbon thread evaporation and metal sputtering using either a gold or platinum target. Multiple large samples can be accommodated on the planetary stage for even coating with minimal shadowing. TEM grids can also be coated. The second Leica EM ACE600 is equipped with a cryo stage and is compatible with the Leica EM VCT to allow easy transfer of cryo samples to and from other instrumentation for conductive coating under vacuum. The cryo version is equipped with carbon thread and e-beam evaporated platinum. Freeze fracture is also possible. A separate LN2 dewar allows coatings to be completed under cryo temperatures, minimizing the chance of ice formation and contamination.
