The study, published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, introduces evidence that the Medicaid program contributes to the health of low-income Oregonians by providing access to an important range of medical providers.

Noteworthy findings include:

  • Oregon’s Medicaid program provided access to a range of important medical services. Access for Medicaid patients was comparable to commercial patients in many regions for many specialties.
  • Access to mental health providers was low in many rural counties, regardless of insurance type.
