GET FIT Together Now Enrolling!
A research study aimed at testing the effects of social support on the benefits of exercise for prostate cancer survivors
Prostate cancer survivors may experience declines in social and physical functioning as a result of their cancer and treatment. We recently received funding from the American Cancer Society to help us learn how different types and levels of social support affect how much men benefit from exercise.
How does it work?
By joining GET FIT Together, you will be assigned to participate in one of three groups:
- Unsupervised, independent exercise program (exercising on your own, but with regular coaching from a trainer)
- Exercising online with a group that is led by a trainer
- Exercising online with a group that is led by a trainer with additional social time prior to exercise.
All study groups will be expected to exercise 3x a week for 6 months, with the group exercise classes exercising on specific days and times.
You may be paid for your participation in the study.
Where will it be held?
In your own home. All classes are held 100% remote! No travel required!
Who may participate?
The study is open to men within and outside of the Portland area.
Men ages 65+ who have completed any kind of treatment (or are currently still undergoing hormone therapy) for their prostate cancer may be eligible to participate.
When does it start?
We are currently enrolling with new waves starting every few months. Call the study team at 503-346-0444, email GFTstudy@ohsu.edu, or complete this form to learn more or get started.
