Dr Kevin Guttenplan Recognized as Finalist for Eppendorf & Science Prize for Neurobiology

Congratulations to Kevin Guttenplan, PhD for his essay titled Why do neurons die? Astrocytes emerge as key mediators of neurodegeneration”.

In the article, Kevin describes his thesis work on how astrocytes participate in the response of the nervous system to disease and injury. His work found that astrocytes become reactive in a range of human diseases and can actively kill neurons by the secretion of toxic lipids.
