Biography

Maria Cunningham is the Director of Special Collections for Oregon Health & Science University. Prior to this position, she served as Rare Book Librarian for the Milwaukee Public Library in Milwaukee, WI and Head of Special Collections and Archives at Reed College in Portland, OR where she started the Reed Zine Library. Maria has a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a certificate in Museum Studies. She is a member of Northwest Archivists, Librarians, Archivists and Museum Professionals in the History of the Health Sciences (LAMPHHS), and the Rare Books and Manuscript Section (RBMS) of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). Her research interests include social justice in libraries, the art of medical illustration, representations of the black body in medical illustration, and zines.
