November 21, 2022: Congratulations to Dr. Katie Stowers, the Ronald W. Naito Director in Serious Illness Education, on her "Empowering Oregon Communities to Excellence in Compassionate Communication" grant award from The Kinsman Foundation. Dr. Stowers has been awarded a 3-year grant to support her TalkOregon initiative, bringing serious illness communication training to regional areas of Oregon. This grant will allow for mentorship, curriculum design, and communication skills training to healthcare facilities in three regional areas of Oregon. Visit the TalkOregon webpage to learn more. 

November 15, 2022:  Congratulations to Sara Taub on her appointment to a 6-year term on the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Bioethics.   Dr. Taub is a Senior Scholar in the Center for Ethics and serves as a core faculty member in the Living with Life Threatening Illness Course. In addition, she is the Pediatric content expert on the Oregon POLST Coalition. Sara was a bioethicist before she became a physician and pediatric palliative medicine physician. Prior to medical school she completed undergraduate medical training in biomedical ethics at Brown University and a Masters of Bioethics from Penn and subsequently worked as a policy analyst for the AMA’s Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs. The American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Bioethics appointment allows Sara to return to ethics policy work in a new way in her chosen field of Pediatrics and to do so in her role as a physician.

October 18. 2022:  Congratulations to Dr. Rie Kimura, who was inducted into the American College of Dentists at its annual session in Houston, Texas on October 13, 2022. Dr. Kimura holds an ethics fellowship certificate from the OHSU Center for Ethics in Health Care. She is currently the dental ethics lead at Kaiser Permanente Dental Associates in Portland Oregon.         
The mission of the American College of Dentists is to advance excellence, ethics, professionalism, and leadership in dentistry. Approximately 4% of US dentists are elected in to this non-profit, professional organization which grants fellowship to those who have done meritorious work.
