Reporting requirements

At time of application

All activities approved for MOC2 require an assessment with a passing standard. This assessment can be a post-test, writing a reflective statement, a case discussion, or another type of assessment.  Feedback to the learners is required for all assessment types.

The American Board of Internal Medicine requires that the activity be peer reviewed by two clinicians who are sufficiently familiar with the material to assess whether the materials are fair, accurate, and free of commercial bias. The peer review forms are online in our document library.

Pre-course

The assessment method chosen and passing standard must be reviewed and approved by the Division of Continuing Professional Development.

At approval time the activity will receive one or more MOC credit statements (depending on the number of boards approved) - this statement must be provided to the participants before they claim their MOC. It must also be  proofread by CPD before publication.

Post-course

The assessment must be reviewed to ensure that the participants have met the passing standard before the results are submitted to CPD.

30 days post-course reporting requirements include:

  • Evidence that the participants have met the passing standard and that feedback was shared with the learners
  • MOC attendance form - required fields are: first name, last name, date of birth, number of credits to award, date credit earned
  • For ABA, ABIM, ABO, ABOHNS, ABPath, and ABP the participant's diplomate ID is required.
