The Department of Cell, Developmental & Cancer Biology offers research and training in cell biology, developmental biology and cancer biology. These areas of study examine the biosynthesis, assembly and function of cellular components, the mechanisms that permit morphogenesis and the ability of interacting cells to form a living organism and the mechanisms that lead to the onset, progression, and dissemination of cancer. The CDCB faculty explore a number of processes that are crucial for all cells and organisms including cellular trafficking, cell proliferation and movement, signal transduction and the temporal and spatial regulation of gene expression. These studies seek to provide fundamental insights into the function of cells and their interactions to form tissues and organisms. The studies also provide key insights into events that lead to cancer and other diseases and provide new opportunities for therapeutic treatments.  The CDB graduate program provides a flexible curriculum that is designed to provide a sound background in cell and molecular biology while permitting each student to pursue individual interests.
