Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Services

The Histopathology Shared Resource provides Immunohistochemistry (IHC) services which include:

  • Testing and titering new antibodies, both monoclonal and polyclonal.
  • The latter should be either a purified IgG fraction or affinity-purified. (Straight serum is not suitable for immunostaining).
  • Optimization of staining to enhance detection and reduce background.
  • Epitope retrieval techniques (pre-treatment with heat and/or proteases)
  • Specialized secondary detection reagents
  • Avidin/biotin blocking steps
  • Double- and triple-antibody stains using multiple chromagens.

Automated immunohistochemistry (IHC)

Immunohistochemistry (IHC) services provided by the Histopathology Shared Resource (HSR) are performed using the automated Leica Bond RX platform.

Anyone interested in immunohistochemistry (IHC) services must:

  • Have an experimental design formulated to present to the core for review
  • Provide the antibody & control tissue to the core
    • *HSR does not carry antibodies in stock for general use.
    • Please note that all remaining materials will be returned to the researcher
  • Make arrangements for interpreting the staining outside of the core
    • *Pathology analysis, quantitative assessment, scoring or interpretation is not available through the core.

Previously optimized antibodies by the core for reference

The Histopathology Shared Resource (HSR) has performed various immunohistochemistry (IHC) stains for researchers and can offer some insight based on previous staining experiences.

*Please note that the Histopathology Shared Resource does not carry any antibodies in stock. The researcher is responsible for purchasing and providing any antibody or reagent needed for their project.

Contact the Histopathology Shared Resource to discuss antibody optimization or for more information.
