Welcome to OHSU Visiting Student Clinical Placement

This site is designed for non-OHSU nursing and other clinical students in allied health rotations. There are onboarding requirements for all students. These requirements must be completed along with your role-specific tasks before you can come to campus. Check with your school's Clinical Placement Coordinator before you start these steps to ensure you have an approved clinical placement at OHSU.
If you are a current employee at OHSU and seeking a clinical placement, please view our O2 page for more information.

First steps

Complete primary Compass modules

Compass is OHSU's Learning and Performance Management System.  Access Compass by completing the Compass online request form for visiting students. If you are a current OHSU employee, use your employee Compass account to review and complete the modules listed below.

Complete the list of the primary required modules. Once finished, you will be instructed on getting a student badge. Some placement roles require additional Compass modules. Review specific requirements in the Allied Health Student or All Nursing Students tabs.

In Compass, you will need to add courses to your transcript. You can self-assign by first searching for the course in the search field. Then, when you have found the class, click on the class to self-assign. Self-assigning adds the course to your list of required courses to complete.

All students will complete the modules listed below. Modules with previous year dates will be accepted if the new current year has not yet been released.

Students are expected to adhere to all OHSU practice standards and policies. Questions can be directed to your preceptor or the OHSU onboarding coordination team.

OHSU parking

Please be sure to allow enough time to park and find your rotation or training location.

Parking at OHSU locations is limited and closely monitored.  Do not park in patient parking areas – you may be subject to a very high fine. Visiting students are classified in the Guest, Vendors, Contactors category. For more information, refer to the Visit OHSU website

For all day parking, students can access HONK parking services. For hourly parking, use one of the available pay stations.

Current OHSU employees on rotation as visiting students, are permitted to use their existing employee parking access.

Informational handouts

Please review the OHSU Useful Phone Numbers and Resources handout.  You do not need to print the document but please review it.  You can always return to this site to access the numbers again.

The Problem-Solving Tips document contains helpful tips for frequently asked questions.

Additional OHSU access

Epic access is determined by your role.  Access is granted after completion of Epic training, and begins on the first day of your scheduled rotation.

A network ID is determined by your role, and provided to you once you register in the Compass LMS system.

What to wear

Unless you have been provided other instructions by your school coordinator, wear scrubs of any color and closed-toe shoes with no openings.

For any training requirements outside of your clinical rotation, attire is business casual and jeans or scrubs are permitted.

Students in surgical and/or operating room rotations, will be provided additional details on OHSU-issued scrubs during rotation onboarding.
