Antiracism Course: Institutional Racism
Course Description
This introductory three-module 45-minute asynchronous course provides participants with a foundational learning experience to acquire the language and concepts to prepare for more in-depth discussions related to structural, institutional, and systemic racism. This course aligns with OHSU’s priority of becoming an antiracism and multicultural institution. The topic of systemic and institutional racism and its impacts are complex; therefore, this course mainly focuses on institutional racism in healthcare-related domains. A resource guide accompanies this training, and examples of current institutional efforts are outlined in the modules. A retractive pre-post survey is included to gather feedback from participants and to inform the creation of new training modules and enhancement and adjustment of future learning modules.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand that racial categories are socially constructed and not biologically real
- Understand that racial categories have meaning and impact
- Understand how racism contributes to inequities in health and healthcare
Target Audience
This course is designed for all employees at OHSU and stakeholders. All CME-eligible participants need to fill out the survey to request CME credit.
A resource guide complements this asynchronous session. It is designed for self-paced learning and as a scaffolding for more in-depth conversations. For additional training sessions related to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging and Antiracism, please contact JEDITraining@ohsu.edu
