Collection Instructions:
- Patient Prep:
- Patient should not urinate for at least 1 hour before collection.
- Collect first-catch urine (approx. 10–50 mL of the initial stream) in a urine collection cup.
- Sample Volume:
- 2 mL to 10 mL
- Transfer to Tube:
- Transfer urine to the Cobas® PCR Media tube immediately.
- If immediate transfer is not possible, store at 2°C to 30°C for up to 24 hours.
Volume Requirement:
- Urine in the PCR Media tube must fall between the two black lines on the tube window.
- Invalid if:
- Volume is above or below these lines
- Urine is added to a previously collected specimen

Not recommended for sex abuse workups.
OHSU Clinical Laboratory Recommendations Regarding Self-collected GU Specimens for CT/NG and Bacterial vaginosis:
1. Cases are not involved in legal investigations.
2. Patients age: 15 to 65 years.
3. Patients who have been assessed for both physical and cognitive abilities, as well as language accessibility to written instructions.
4. Anatomic sites: 1) vaginal swabs, 2) first void or “dirty” urine, and 3) penile meatus (Warning: self-collection does not include throat and rectal swabs).
