Dotter Department of Interventional Radiology Residency Programs
Advance your future in image-guided interventions
At OHSU, the birthplace of interventional radiology and Oregon’s only academic health center, you will find rigorous academics, innovative technology and dedicated faculty who mentor you. You will also work in Portland, known for its vibrant culture and natural beauty.
Our two training pathways prepare you for a career in interventional radiology. Upon completion of either pathway, you will be eligible for dual board certification in interventional radiology and diagnostic radiology.
- Interventional Radiology Integrated Residency: A five-year program combining interventional and diagnostic radiology training after a one-year internship
- Independent Interventional Radiology Residency: A one- or two-year training advanced path that builds upon your completed diagnostic radiology residency
Why OHSU?
You’ll train in a program shaped by the innovative work of Dr. Charles Dotter, who pioneered transluminal angioplasty and launched the field of interventional radiology. You can expect rigorous training and guidance to help lead the future of minimally invasive, image‑guided interventions and drive patient care. You’ll find:
- Advanced and complex procedures: Gain hands-on clinical experience in all aspects of interventional radiology including vascular, oncologic, nonvascular interventions and more
- Expert mentorship: Learn from nationally and internationally recognized faculty
- Collaborative care: Work closely with our colleagues across other specialties
- Academic opportunities: Engage in research, innovation and leadership
- Professional expertise: Prepare for careers in IR or IR/diagnostic radiology care
Residency program leaders
Whichever program path you take, we mentor you every step of the way. You’ll learn from expert faculty in the Dotter Department Interventional Radiology, as well as leaders in Diagnostic Imaging, Surgery and other specialties.
Claire Kaufman, M.D., is the residency program director and associate professor of interventional radiology. She is also the associate director of the Pacific Northwest Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) Center of Excellence, treating patients all over the pacific northwest and Alaska.
