Maria Kosma, PhD biography

Dr. Maria Kosma is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, LA. Her research focus is the study of theory-based psychosocial determinants of physical activity for health and wellness among individuals with physical disabilities and older adults. She has external funding through the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to examine stages-of-change among adults with physical disabilities. Dr. Kosma has numerous research publications in quality peer-reviewed journal articles, including the Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology, Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly, Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, American Journal of Health Promotion, and Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise. She is a member of several international and national organizations and has currently received Fellow status in the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD). She has received the Mabel Lee Award through AAHPERD, which represents the highest honor an investigator, younger than 36, can receive regarding scholarship, teaching, and service.
