Specimen Requirements:

Collect in a Sterile container, Syringe, Eswab (preferred), or Amies gel swab (acceptable).
Preferred volume is greater than 1 mL; minimum volume is 0.5 mL.
Transport at room temperature.

Pediatric Specimen Requirements:

As above.

Comments:

Stability is 48 hours for Eswab and 24 hours for Amies swab, sterile container, and syringe.
Rejection criteria: Expired media, leaking container, syringe with needle still attached, past stability, frozen.
