Trauma Video Review FAQs
What is the purpose of trauma video reviews?
We use these videos to train our staff and learn how to improve:
- Care for critically injured patients
- Communication
- Leadership
- Technical skills
How does the recording get started?
- A member of the trauma team will press the start button in the trauma bay.
- The video will start recording. It will stop automatically after 30 minutes.
- If we need more recording time, we will need to press the button again.
How do you get consent from patients to be on video?
A research coordinator or doctor will ask the patient or their representative for consent. The patient (or representative) will give consent by filling out a form.
When and how will these videos be reviewed?
If there is consent, the Trauma Video Review Director or the Trauma Program Director will download the videos. They will edit them to highlight key teaching points. Then, selected portions will be reviewed twice a month for staff at a video review meeting.
What if a patient or their representative does not consent?
We will not review the video. It will be automatically deleted from the system after 21 days.
Can a patient or their representative get a copy of their video?
No. The videos are not part of their health record.
