Thyroid Cancer Treatment Options
Treatment for thyroid cancer works best when your doctors and other healthcare providers share their knowledge and experience. At the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, that means doctors, nurses and endocrinologists work as a team to determine the best treatment for you and to make sure you get personalized treatment. A nurse coordinator will help arrange your visits and treatment. You get the peace of mind you deserve and the efficiency you need.
We offer a variety of treatment options for thyroid cancer, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. We follow the American Thyroid Association guidelines for success and ease of treatment.
Our thyroid surgeons are highly experienced and have dedicated their careers to thyroid cancer surgery. They do approximately 200 thyroid cancer surgeries every year. They also work with our experienced endocrinologists and nurses to make sure you have the most effective treatment after surgery.
Medical oncologists treat cancer with drugs and therapies other than surgery and radiation. After thyroid surgery, many patients are treated with radioactive iodine. Your endocrinologist will work closely with your surgeon to determine the best course of action.
Our team includes community medical oncologists who have a special interest in thyroid cancer. These doctors have clinics throughout the Portland Metro area, giving you the option to stay within your community for treatment.
Radiation oncologists work as part of a multidisciplinary thyroid cancer care team to create the treatment plan that is right for your thyroid cancer.
We use the most advanced technology to treat thyroid cancer. This includes state-of-the-art Varian linear accelerators and the Novalis TX with BrainLAB technology.
