The Division of Vascular Surgery at Oregon Health & Science University maintains important programs in patient care, research, and teaching. The division directs a busy inpatient and outpatient clinical service, multiple noninvasive vascular laboratories in the Portland metropolitan area, and a comprehensive clinical and basic science research program.
In addition, the Division is intimately involved in the teaching of medical students and resident physicians associated with the School of Medicine and the Department of Surgery respectively. A two year accredited vascular surgery residency, taking one resident per year, is also offered through the Division of Vascular Surgery.
Clinical Services: Inpatient clinical services are conducted at University Hospital at Oregon Health & Science University. The service performs over 1000 vascular operations per year and serves as a Northwest tertiary referral center for complex vascular surgery problems.
Outpatient services consist of an outpatient clinic held every Wednesday in the Physician's Pavilion; an outpatient venous clinic held every Tuesday afternoon in the Physician's Pavilion; and a Raynaud's clinic held every Monday in the Clinical Research Center. The Raynaud's clinic specializes in problems surrounding circulation of the hand. In addition, special appointments for days other than Wednesday can be provided for patients with special circumstances. For information regarding these clinics, please call 503-494-7593.
Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory Services: Vascular laboratory services are provided through the Division of Vascular Surgery and are available at University Hospital, Providence St. Vincent Hospital and Medical Center, Providence Medical Center, and Providence Milwaukie Hospital. State of the art techniques aiding in the noninvasive diagnosis of vascular disease are performed at these laboratories. On-call services are provided as well. For more information, please call 503-494-7848. If on-call services are desired, please call the University Hospital operator at 503-494-8311 and ask for the vascular technologist on call.
Research Services: A variety of clinical and basic science research projects are pursued in the Division of Vascular Surgery. Studies funded by the National Institute of Health as well as pharmaceutical company phase III trials of the treatment of vascular diseases with medications are ongoing. Similarly, large prospective data bases established in the early 1980's provide the foundation for answering other complex research questions in vascular surgery. A basic science laboratory also plays a major role in the understanding of blood vessel biology and physiology of vascular disease. The majority of research is presented at major medical meetings and published in their respective journals. For information regarding research or an interest in participating in a clinical study, please call 503-494-7593.
