Balance Disorders Laboratory
Dr. Fay Horak's laboratory is recognized in Oregon and around the nation for its studies on how the brain controls balance. Dr. Horak has helped the lab develop and provide:
- Methods for testing balance in people with Parkinson's disease
- New physical therapy techniques
- Exercise programs to treat or prevent balance and walking problems
Dr. Horak is a physical therapist and motor control neurophysiologist (specialist in nervous system function). She has studied Parkinson's disease for more than 25 years. Much of her research has been done with OHSU Parkinson Center. Dr. Horak is known worldwide. She has published more than 200 articles in medical journals and won many awards. She has also worked with many local, national and international organizations to fight Parkinson's disease.
