Founded
in 1926, the OHSU School of Nursing has played a key role in training
nurses for nearly a century. With a history of academic and clinical excellence
and a commitment to teaching, healing, community service and research,
the school provides undergraduate students with the opportunity to learn
in a health care and research oriented environment.
The OHSU standard undergraduate Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing
program is part of the Oregon Consortium of Nursing Education program,
OCNE. This three year program combines nursing and non-nursing coursework
for students to achieve the B.S. with a major in nursing degree and prepare
for RN Licensure.
The OHSU
School of Nursing provides top nursing education from nationally renowned
faculty; over 60% of our baccalaureate faculty members are doctorally
educated. Our classroom curriculum and clinical placements utilize the
cutting edge health care environment that is OHSU, where healing, teaching
and discovery come together.
OCNE
students benefit from the nationally recognized simulation program. The
statewide campus' simulation center serves many groups outside the School
of Nursing, including the OHSU hospital, the anesthesiology and peri-operative
medicine departments, high school career groups, foreign-trained nurses
seeking licensure in the US, and individuals from other programs, both
inside and outside the US seeking simulation training and consultation.
OHSU
School of Nursing will be admitting cohorts for the standard B.S. OCNE
program at each of our five campuses: Ashland,
Klamath
Falls, La
Grande, Monmouth and Portland.

OCNE B.S. Nursing Program
In 2001, the OHSU School of Nursing joined with several Oregon community
colleges in an exciting new partnership, the Oregon
Consortium for Nursing Education (OCNE). Established in response to
the critical nursing shortage, OCNE enables Oregon nursing programs to
dramatically expand the availability of students to receive the B.S. nursing
degree and increase enrollment, while preparing graduates with competencies
to address the rapidly changing health care needs of Oregon’s aging
and ethnically diverse populations. The consortium is characterized by:
• A shared, competency-based curriculum culminating in a bachelor’s
degree.
• Improved utilization of clinical facilities and faculty expertise
in Oregon.
• Development and use of state-of-the art clinical simulation labs
to augment on-site clinical training.
• Shared agreements for student support services that facilitate
students; financial aid, co-admission, and dual enrollment– as needed for completion of the B.S. degree.
• Shared agreements for academic standards including admissions
criteria, progression and graduation standards between all partner schools.
In fall 2006, OHSU and 6 other Community Colleges (Clackamas,
Lane, Mt.
Hood, Umpqua, Rogue
and Southwestern Oregon) began implementing
the OCNE program as the primary curriculum at each School of Nursing.
These programs have already accepted their first cohorts for the OCNE
curriculum, and these community college students began transitioning
as OHSU students in spring 2008! Interested students should review the
admissions prerequisites and application process at each institution for
which they plan to apply.
