Interventional Radiology

The most brilliant advances in medical technology and research are only as useful as our ability to apply them in the clinical setting.

In keeping with this philosophy, the Dotter Department of Interventional Radiology serves as a beacon of both internationally recognized research and locally delivered advanced clinical care.

The Dotter Department of Interventional Radiology is a part of the OHSU School of Medicine, with its own admitting service and clinic.

We provide all the diagnostic angiographic, interventional radiologic, and neurointerventional services to the OHSU and VA Hospitals.

Statement on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism:

Diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism are fundamental to enhancing and maximizing access, delivery and outcomes in medicine and science.  The Dotter Department of Interventional Radiology values diverse individuals to create a strong, collaborative, culturally sensitive and highly effective workforce dedicated to the care of those in need.

Welcome to the Dotter Department of Interventional Radiology.

Established in 1990, the Dotter Institute began as a multidisciplinary clinical, research, and educational division of OHSU.

The Institute was named in honor of Dr. Charles Dotter, a radiologist who on January 16, 1964, initiated a paradigm shift in medicine when he performed the first percutaneous angioplasty.

From this single innovation has grown Interventional Radiology, Interventional Cardiology, Endovascular Surgery, Interventional Neurosurgery, and many other specialties.

More important, millions of patients have benefited from less invasive and often more effective image-guided interventions. I am honored to succeed Drs. Josef Rösch, Frederick Keller, and John Kaufman as the Chair of the Department.

We hope that you will also be able to share in the excitement we have for the present and future of image-guided interventions.

- Khashayar Farsad, MD, PhD, Interim Chair and Professor of Interventional Radiology, School of Medicine
