NEW NATIONAL GUIDELINES FOR THOSE INFECTED WITH HEPATITIS B OR HEPATITIS C or HIV

In 2010, the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America published new guidelines for health care workers infected with HIV, Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C to follow to prevent accidental patient exposure to these blood-borne pathogens. Infected individuals training in a patient care environment must follow these guidelines as well.

Please call 503-494-8665 and schedule an appointment so that we can:

  1. Review the guidelines with you
  2. Review strategies to help you minimize the risk of transmission to patients, particularly in certain higher risk procedures
  3. Review new institutional procedures to follow in case of accidental patient exposure.

It is important that we follow viral load titers semi-annually to help manage and prevent risk of transmission of these pathogens in certain higher risk patient care procedures.  Your health care data will be kept confidential.  If you are accidentally involved in a patient exposure and are infected with one of these pathogens call the JBT Health & Wellness Center immediately at 503-494-8665. After hours call 503-494-8311 and ask for the JBT Health provider on call. It is of the utmost importance, that you call us so that any accidental patient exposure can be appropriately managed.
