Nurse of the Year Awardees

Dr. Lissi Hansen and Carla Pentecost Named as OHSU Hospital's 2009 Nurse of the Year Awardees

Lissi Hansen, Ph.D.,R.N., assistant professor, has been named "2009 Research Champion Nurse of the Year." Hansen is a strong advocate for nursing research. She has a number of funded studies taking place on 12 KPV as well at the VA hospital. On each of these projects Hansen has involved direct care nurses in aspects of the study, particularly in data collection. Her projects are immediately relevant to direct care nurses, particularly end of life care for patients with liver failure. Hansen is approachable which makes research approachable and she engages staff. She has served on the Nursing Research Shared Governance Council since August 2006. Hansen is working on a project to improve the care of patients who experience delirium and in doing this project; she brings the research literature to life for staff. She's a phenomenal nurse researcher and OHSU is privileged to have her as one of our own.

Carla Pentecost, M.S.N., R.N.,C.N.S., instructor, has been named "2009 Clinical Faculty of the Year." Pentecost knows how to present information to students in a manner that is informative, exciting and challenging. She is an accomplished nurse in the clinical setting and speaks with experience and authority. She manifests the art of motivating students to do their best and excels in providing an atmosphere which speaks to both the art and science of nursing.
