Clinical Services

We are a team of 26 registered dietitians who cover all patient centered care throughout OHSU.  We are all licensed dietitians by the state of Oregon.   We practice in 3 areas within the hospital:

 

Adult In-patient Nutrition Services:

Every in-patient unit of the hospital has a dietitian on staff.  The registered/licensed dietitian complete a thorough nutrition assessment, defines and addresses any nutrition problem that is identified from the nutrition assessment, calculate patients' nutrition needs and determines appropriate nutrition intervention which may include education, and monitors the nutrition status over the course of hospitalization. They work closely with the entire medical team to ensure a high level of comprehensive care, and also with food service to make sure the patient receives the appropriate diet for their condition.

 

Adult Out-patient Services:

The adult out-patient dietitians will perform a full nutrition assessment at the initial visit and work with the patient to increase awareness, education, and build skills to adopt a healthier lifestyle.  We have experience helping patients with all conditions that nutrition intervention is part of the management including  Heart Disease, Diabetes, Bariatric Surgery, Weight Management, Cancer, Cystic Fibrosis, Crohns Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, ALS, Food Allergies, Celiac Disease, Renal Disease, Liver Disease, Epilepsy, and Eating Disorders.

 

Pediatric In-patient and Out-patient Services:

Doernbecher pediatric dietitians work with patients aged 0-18 years old. Dietitians work closely with the medical team and patients and their families to make sure they have all the nutrition information and education they need to help the child grow up to live a healthy life.  Every in-patient unit of  Doernbecher Children's Hospital has a dietitian on staff.

The registered/licensed dietitian completes a thorough nutrition assessment, defines and addresses any nutrition problem that is identified from the nutrition assessment,  calculates patients nutrition needs and determines appropriate nutrition interventions which may include education, and monitors nutrition status over the course of hospitalization. They work closely with the entire medical team to ensure a high level of comprehensive care, and also with food service to make sure the patient receives the appropriate diet for their condition.

In the outpatient setting the dietitian will perform a full nutrition assessment at the initial visit and work with the patient to increase awareness, education, and build skills to adopt a healthier lifestyle.  We have experience helping children and their families with:  Weight Management, Cancer, Cystic Fibrosis, Crohns Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Food Allergies, Celiac Disease, Renal Disease, Epilepsy, Feeding Difficulties, and Eating Disorders.
