Department of Pediatrics

Hematology/Oncology

The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology’s mission is to improve the treatment of children and adolescents with cancer and blood disorders through direct care and cutting-edge clinical and laboratory research. We serve as the principal referral center for patients from Oregon and Southwest Washington. We treat over 150 children with newly diagnosed cancer and chronic blood disorders each year, and we care for more than 600 patients yearly in our designated clinic, infusion center, and 21 bed inpatient unit of the Kenneth Ford Cancer Center. Our faculty is nationally recognized for their work in pediatric leukemia, stem cell transplantation, brain tumors, late effects of cancer and its treatment, and hemophilia. In addition, several physician scientists within our division pursue laboratory research to understand mechanisms of cancer and the use of bone marrow stem cells for treatment of genetic disorders. We are a member of the OHSU Cancer Center, the OHSU Center for Hematologic Malignancies, and the NW Bone Marrow Transplant Consortium.

Our Division has the only pediatric hematology/oncology fellowship training program in the state of Oregon and graduates two board eligible subspecialists each year. We are an active member of the Children's Oncology Group (COG) and are one of only 21 nationally designated Phase I Centers within COG. We administer Oregon's Comprehensive Hemophilia Center and Pediatric Stem Cell transplant Program. The division participates in national and international research. Faculty members serve on the Board of Trustees of the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (Oregon Chapter), and play leadership roles in the Children's Oncology Group, International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP), and the European Pediatric Oncology Research Group.
