OCTRI Strategic Investment Funding

OCTRI provides provide critical leverage for their clinical/translational research.

This funding is specifically intended to provide critical support for a project that is close to achieving independent funding. A very limited pool of funds is available annually, so we are looking for compelling opportunities with the potential for high impact. Priority will be given to those proposals that require a small amount of funding to achieve a significant result. Funding requests that involve partnering with other sources (e.g. departmental sources) are strongly favored.

Projects requiring less than $5,000 (cash with or without OCTRI services):

This funding opportunity addresses the challenge commonly faced by investigators – a compelling opportunity that requires a small investment to realize significant return. This small investment requires a short application, and it is evaluated quickly. It is predicated on the principles that no other funding possibilities exists, and that the investment is likely to yield highly impactful short term results (e.g. enable critical preliminary data needed for a new federal grant submission, or create a collaboration necessary for founding a new research direction). Because the funding pool is small the budget requested should be carefully designed to efficiently accomplish the goal.

Projects requiring $5,000 - $20,000 (cash with or without OCTRI services):

This funding opportunity is designed to require a short application and rapid turn-around, but involves slightly more support and entails a somewhat more extended review. It provides $5,000-$20,000 in funding, and is also predicated on the principles that no other funding possibilities exists, and that the investment is likely to yield highly impactful long term results (e.g. enable preliminary data needed for a new federal grant submission or provide proof of principle data that lead to a patent application). Because the funding pool is small the budget requested should be carefully designed to efficiently accomplish the goal. Funding requests that involve partnering with other sources (e.g. departmental sources) are strongly favored.

Projects requiring OCTRI services only:

Investigators may request infrastructure support from OCTRI programs such as the CTRC (nursing, study coordinator, core lab/sample processing, bionutrition/research kitchen), Informatics, Investigator Support and Integration Services (IRB applications and regulatory consultations), and Biostatistics. The OHSU Research Data Warehouse may also be instrumental in identifying patients for potential recruitment, and the OHSU Biolibrary may be an essential core resource for specimen collection.

Funding Requests:

For funding requests that are less than $5,000, please complete the basic application. Requests are reviewed weekly; applicants can expect to hear back from OCTRI on either a decision or a request for additional information within 2 weeks of submission. Note that requests for subsidized OCTRI services require the development of a service-specific budget; you will need to submit a Resource Request Form to the OCTRI Research Navigator Program prior to submitting your application.

For funding requests that are $5,000 - $20,000, please complete the extended application. Requests are reviewed bi-weekly; applicants can expect to hear back from OCTRI on either a decision or a request for additional information within 4 weeks of submission. Note that requests for subsidized OCTRI services require the development of a service-specific budget; you will need to submit a Resource Request Form to the OCTRI Research Navigator Program prior to submitting your application.
