"I am humbled to be entrusted with the care of children in the community. This involves understanding that illness in children places significant stress upon the entire family. As a pediatric surgeon, I believe that my role is to care for the child, as well as to support the family during difficult times."
Dr. Jafri joined the Division of Pediatric Surgery in September 2011. He came to Portland after almost a decade of training and research in Cincinnati, OH. He completed his training at Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center where he also spent two years of research in the area of biliary atresia, the most common cause of liver failure requiring transplant in children. His care of these special children that usually require operative intervention in the first few months of life helped develop an understanding of the role of Pediatric Surgery in the care of the most fragile patients.
The unique nature of Pediatric Surgery involves long-term care of patients, making it different from many other fields of surgery. This results in special relationships between surgeons and families. Dr. Jafri enjoys developing these bonds with patients and families. He feels that the care of children involves patience and that every family must be treated individually and with respect.
In his free time, Dr. Jafri and his wife enjoy discovering the beautiful Pacific Northwest. They are excited to be starting a family in Portland.
