About me

Dr. Marla Rhem is a family physician at her core. Continuity with her patients is her joy. The breadth of family medicine amazes her every day.

Dr. Rhem’s special interests in maternal-child health and surgical obstetrics stem from formative experiences in international health, including time in Honduras and Ghana. After completing her training, she returned to Pittsburgh to begin her urban, academic practice including full-scope family medicine within the historically Black neighborhood called Hill District. She also worked as an obstetrics hospitalist. She is passionate about caring for those individuals who may otherwise not have access to care, as well as reducing the stark health disparities Black families face.

Hailing from the DC/Maryland/Virginia region, Dr. Rhem considers herself solar powered and is a lover of the outdoors. The trees drew her to the Pacific Northwest, and she is excited to have landed in Portland. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her partner and two energetic orange cats, gardening, reading, cooking or breezing down a slope on two skis.
