Dr. Horowitz joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 1997. He is currently a Professor and serves as a Medical Director for the Oregon, Alaska and Guam Poison Centers. His academic interests include toxicology, botulism, and medical history.

Robert A. Lowe, MD, MPH, joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 2001. Dr. Lowe served as a clinician and teacher of Emergency Medicine for over 25 years. He founded the Center for Policy and Research in Emergency Medicine (CPR-EM) and the Emergency Medicine Research Fellowship. His research background includes over 100 peer-reviewed publications, and he currently serves as Principal Investigator of three NIH grants, including OHSU's new K12 Institutional Research Training Grant in Emergency Medical Care.

In January of 2007, Dr. John Ma was appointed Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University and he is currently the chair of the Professional Board for OHSU Healthcare. Dr. Ma also served as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2006 at the University of Missouri/Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri, where he had been Vice Chair since 2000. Upon graduation from residency, he joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. In addition he has served as an editor on 12 textbooks, including Emergency Ultrasound (both editions) and Tintinalli's Emergency Medicine: A Comprehensive Study Guide, 7th edition. Dr. Ma's academic interests include faculty development, and emergency ultrasound. In his personal time you can find Dr. Ma playing football, basketball and golf as well as writing and enjoying his wife's gourmet cooking.

Dr. John Moorhead joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 1978. During his 30 plus years in the department he has held many positions including Director of the Emergency Medicine Residency program for 13 years and Chair of the department for 6 years. His special interests include administration, trauma services, medical education and health policy. In his free time he enjoys playing hockey and golf.

Dr. Norton joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 1980. When it comes to emergency services, Dr. Norton plays many roles. Among them, he is the Chair of Emergency Medicine's Continuous Quality Improvement program, and medical and critical care consultant for the Oregon Poison Center. His special interests include observation medicine, aero-medical transportation, toxicology, critical care and emergency medical services.

Dr. Thomas joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 1985. He is currently the Co-Director of the Emergency Medicine Fellowship program as well as the Chair of Emergency Medicine's Promotion & Tenure Committee. Dr. Thomas served as the President of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) from 2008-2009 and has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2001.

Dr. Warden joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 1996. He currently serves as the Medical Director of the Global Mission Readiness in Clackamas, the Oregon State Urban Search & Rescue Task Force 1 (OR TF-1), Clackamas County (CCOM) Emergency Medical Dispatch and Clackamas County Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council. Dr. Warden is an accomplished author, educator, former paramedic and innovator. Because of Dr Warden's leadership, the paramedics and EMT's with Clackamas Fire District #1 have embraced participation in a national study on cardiac resuscitation, resulting in some of the highest cardiac arrest "save to alive" at discharge percentages in the country. He also implemented the use of a rescue airway as an option for paramedics to secure an airway while performing CPR, now being considered as the standard for Cardiac Arrest care in the Portland Metropolitan area.

Dr. Brunett joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 1994. He is currently the Chief of the Education section, and serves as the Emergency Medicine Residency program director. Dr. Brunett has been instrumental in creating the Education Research and Global Health Fellowships at OHSU and has expanded his program's use of evidence-based medicine and medical simulation as educational tools. His interests include bedside teaching, curriculum development and simulation. In his free time he enjoys music of all kinds and plays the piano, mandolin and ukulele. He also enjoys literature and poetry and believes strongly in universal access to health care.

Dr. Daya joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 1988 and currently serves as our EMS Section Chief and Fellowship Director. Dr. Daya also serves as the EMS Medical Director for Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue and Forest Grove Fire & Rescue as well as the Medical Director of Washington County Consolidated Communications Agency. His professional interests include cardiac arrest, emergency medical services systems, international emergency medicine, and time-critical emergencies: AMI, stroke, trauma, travel medicine and occupational infectious diseases. In his free times he enjoys traveling, reading, playing squash and listening to music.

Dr. DeIorio joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2007. She currently is an Associate Professor for the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics. She also serves as the Director of Medical Student Education and Assistant Program Director for Residency in Emergency Medicine. Her academic interests include education research, OB/GYN emergencies and informed consent. In her free time she enjoys reading, knitting, running, and supporting the Portland Trail Blazers.

Dr. Hendrickson joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2002. He is currently the Fellowship Director of Medical Toxicology for the Oregon Poison Center as well as the Medical Director for OHSU's Emergency Preparedness Program. Dr. Hendrickson's research interests are in the fields of illicit drug use, methamphetamine, disaster preparedness, and acetaminophen. He has twice been awarded the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine's Most Newsworthy Abstracts for his work on methamphetamine-related Emergency Department visits. Dr. Hendrickson can be spotted running, cycling, and mountain biking in the greater Portland area.

Dr. John McConnell joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 2002. He is currently the Director of the Emergency Medicine Research Fellowship Program. His interests include health economics, health policy, management practices, and quality improvement. When he&rsquot;s not busy with his research you can find him running, skiing, reading and cooking.

Dr. Garth Meckler joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 2006. He is currently the Assistant Section Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Director of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Program. He is also the Co-Director for Pediatric Simulation in the Department of Pediatrics. His interests include pediatric emergency medicine, medical education, pre-hospital education and procedural sedation. In his spare time he enjoys soccer, running, photography and poetry.

Dr. Sahni joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2002. He currently serves as Medical Director for the Lake Oswego Fire Department as well as for the Oregon State Emergency Medical Services. Dr. Sahni sits on the Board of Directors for the Advocates for Emergency Medical Services, a coalition of major EMS organizations dedicated to promoting, educating and increasing awareness among decision-makers in Washington on issues affecting EMS providers. He is also a Board Member of the National Registry of EMTs and the National Association of EMS Physicians. When he is not engaging in outstanding service with EMS he can be found hanging out with his family, watching football and learning to snowboard.

Dr. Spiro joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2006. He currently serves as the Medical Director and section Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Dr. Spiro specializes in caring for children and enjoys working with families whose children present with emergencies. Research areas of interest include acute otitis media, asthma, intussusception, judicious use of antibiotics, and childhood obesity. His most important hobby is being a father and husband. He enjoys spending time with his family and likes to trail run, swim and play squash --especially with his sons. He can also be found traveling to the developing world and speaking Spanish with his patients.

Dr. Sun joined the Department of Emergency Medicine in 2011. He completed a fellowship in health services research at UCLA in the Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program. In 2010 Dr. Sun was honored with the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Young Investigator Award. His research studies include geriatric syncope and emergency department crowding, and in his free time you can find him hiking Portland's many trails or rollerblading along the riverfront.

Dr. Ellingson joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 2007. He is the Director of Adult Simulation for EM resident education and directs the simulation experience for medical students in the Emergency Department. Dr. Ellingson is also the Medical Director for the OIT/OHSU Paramedic Program and has worked to include simulation training in the pre-hospital setting. In his free time you can find him cycling and competing in triathlons, or playing the piano.

Dr. Fleischman joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 2010 after completing a fellowship in Emergency Medicine Research. He currently serves on the Epic order set committee as well as the inpatient change management and clinical champion teams. His clinical and research areas of interest include medical informatics, pediatric diagnosis, injuries in children and the elderly, pre-hospital care and wilderness medicine. In his spare time, Dr. Fleischman serves as a board member and volunteer at the Portland Mountain Rescue.

Dr. Kalbfleisch joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at OHSU in 1991. For 15 years, he served as an Assistant Residency Director and now manages the Clinical Research Investigative Studies Program (CRISP). He also coordinates training for medical students in a course called Sexual Orientation Issues in Health Care. His research interests include vulnerable populations, GLBT issues, global health and geriatric emergency care. Dr. Kalbfleisch started out with a Bachelor's degree in Zoology and Botany and you may find him in one of Oregon's many parks or the zoo putting his knowledge to good use.
