Director of the Histopathology Shared Resource

George Thomas, M.D. is a board-certified anatomic pathologist with expertise in urologic pathology and translational research. Dr. Thomas is experienced in multiple components of molecular pathology, to include biomarker development and validation, image analysis, immunohistochemistry, immunoflorescence and fluorescence in situ hybridization.


Core Laboratory Manager

Kate Rice is a Core Scientist who became a member of the Histopathology Shared Resource in July 2021. She has certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) as a Histotechnologist (HTL) with experienced grossing, embedding, microtomy, sectioning, special staining and immunohistochemistry (IHC). 


Core staff

Chad Judy is an Assistant Core Scientist 2 who joined our core in May 2019. He has experience in grossing processing, sectioning of paraffin and optimal cutting temperature compound samples, special staining and immunohistochemistry (IHC).

Alyssa Valles is an Assistant Core Scientist 1 who joined HSR in October 2021. As a previous specimen processing specialist, she has experience providing technical laboratory support in a histology setting.

Joscelyn Zarceno is an Assistant Core Scientist 2 who provides administrative support to the lab by performing data entry, record keeping and point of contact for researchers.
