Peter Graven quoted in Lund Report
A July 3 Lund Report article on the new Oregon Health Authority budget quoted CHSE Research Economist Peter Graven on the economic impact of Oregon's planned Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act. The state's move to extend Medicaid coverage to an additional 180,000 to 260,000 Oregonians, using mostly federal funds, provoked fears among some legislators about risks to the state budget.
Graven, however, presented a more favorable picture of Oregon's outcome, based on a study prepared by CHSE, the State Health Access Data Assistance Center, and Manatt Health Solutions. While critics feared a budget hole resulting from the expansion, Graven, citing work from the report, predicted a total of about $79 million in savings to the state budget between 2014 and 2020.
