eIACUC UPGRADE
Announcing an upgrade in IACUC Annual Review Reporting for Non-USDA Animals!
Effective November 20, 2009, annual reporting for research involving non-USDA regulated animals will be done via investigator self-certification. Non-USDA regulated animals include rats(genus: rattus), mice (genus: mus), birds, amphibians, reptiles, and fish; all other living vertebrates are USDA covered animals. This change affects annual reporting for both eIACUC protocols and protocols that are still maintained in paper files.
Please note that the eIACUC will not be available from 12 noon to 4:00 PM on November 19, 2009 so that we can implement this change.
Annual review reporting for protocols involving USDA regulated animals remains unchanged. Three year review for all protocols also remains unchanged.
In the eIACUC, the system automatically presents the correct forms for the different protocol types. For investigators submitting paper forms, two different annual review forms are provided on the IACUC forms page at:
http://www.ohsu.edu/xd/about/services/integrity/policies/research.cfm#iacuc_forms
Investigators must choose the correct form for their protocols.
For further information about the eIACUC downtime, or for questions about the new method for annual reporting, please contact the OHSU IACUC Office at iacuc@ohsu.edu, or by phone: Central and Waterfront (Main) Campus:503-494-8408 or West Campus: 503-690-5289.
About the IACUC
Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) recognizes the vital importance that animals fulfill in research. OHSU is bound by federal mandates, namely the Animal Welfare Act and Public Health Service Policy to maintain an oversight committee (IACUC) that reviews and regulates the use of animals for biomedical research and teaching.
As part of quality assurance and a high standard of care, the IACUC follows the guidelines of The Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) and sets its policies according to The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. The OLAW assurance number for OHSU is A33401.
Both the Department of Comparative Medicine (DCM) and the Division of Animal Resources (DAR) work closely with the IACUC and have full accreditation from the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC).
At least semi annually the IACUC evaluates OHSU's animal research program and inspects laboratories where animals are taken and animal facilities and animal research program to assure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
