eIACUC UPGRADE

The eIACUC is being upgraded!

Please note that the eIACUC will not be available from 12 noon to 4 PM on September 2, 2009.

This downtime is to permit the implementation of an improved method for designating which species and strains undergo experimental procedures, including breeding, genotyping, administration of experimental agents, and other procedures necessary for the science.

This upgrade does not require any investigator action for existing protocols.  Investigators may choose to use the new method at any time.

For further information about the downtime, or for questions about the new method for designating species and strains, please contact the OHSU IACUC Office at iacuc@ohsu.edu, or by phone:  Central and Waterfront (Main) Campus:503-494-8408 or West Campus: 503-690-5289.

About the IACUC

Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) recognizes the vital importance that animals fulfill in research. OHSU is bound by federal mandates, namely the Animal Welfare Act and Public Health Service Policy to maintain an oversight committee (IACUC) that reviews and regulates the use of animals for biomedical research and teaching.

As part of quality assurance and a high standard of care, the IACUC follows the guidelines of The Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) and sets its policies according to The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. The OLAW assurance number for OHSU is A33401.

Both the Department of Comparative Medicine (DCM) and the Division of Animal Resources (DAR) work closely with the IACUC and have full accreditation from the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC).

At least semi annually the IACUC evaluates OHSU's animal research program and inspects laboratories where animals are taken and animal facilities and animal research program to assure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
