"I enjoy the midwifery model of care where women are participants in their own care rather than just recipients of care."
Biography
Cathy Emeis specializes in all aspects of pregnancy care; perimenopause and family planning. Her research interests include midwifery education and patient decision-making. Cathy is very happy that she chose the field of nursing and midwifery and enjoys helping ensure that pregnancy and childbirth is a normal, healthy process for patients and their families. An Illinois native, Cathy lived in Colorado for 22 years before moving to Portland. She feels privileged to teach at OHSU, which has the number one nurse-midwifery program in the nation. When she’s not working, Emeis is learning to grow beautiful roses, biking, spending time with her family and exploring Oregon. CHILDBIRTH AND PREGNANCY PHILOSOPHY "As nurse-midwives, we are experts in normal pregnancy and strive to preserve normalcy for patients and their families. Being experts in normal helps nurse-midwives identify abnormal quickly. I enjoy working within a system that values the entire obstetric team."
