Biography
Dr. Nicol sees a wide variety of patients with hormone deficiencies. She has clinics both in the Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center, where she treats children with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and clinics at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, where she evaluates and manages disorders of growth and puberty as well as abnormalities of the pituitary, thyroid, and adrenal glands. Her special interests are in the origins of obesity related metabolic diseases. Dr. Nicol works in basic science research studying the effects of pancreatic inflammation on the development of diabetes in children. She hopes that a better understanding of the early abnormalities leading to diseases such as insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes will help doctors prevent the onset of these obesity related diseases in childhood. In her spare time, Dr. Nicol works in her garden, snowshoes, and fixes up old houses. Having grown up in the Pacific Northwest, she loves making Portland her home and enjoys meeting patients and families from all over Oregon and southwest Washington.
