What is neurocritical care?
Neuroscience critical care is intensive care for people with life-threatening neurological (nervous system) conditions. These include:
- Major stroke
- Bleeding in and around the brain
- Brain tumors
- Brain trauma (injury)
- Severe seizures
- Nerve and muscle disorders such as myasthenia gravis or Guillain-Barré syndrome
- Spinal cord disorders
The neuroscience critical care team at OHSU is experienced at caring for people who are paralyzed, in a coma or have other injuries besides brain or nervous system conditions. Our goal is to give every patient the best care available, prevent further brain or nervous system injury or disease and make it easier to go to another area of the hospital to recover.
