Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a treatment that has been used in China for at least 2500 years. According to the acupuncture theory, there are patterns of energy (Qi) flowing through your body along certain paths called meridians. Disturbance in the flow of Qi (pronounced "chee") can cause health problems.

Acupuncture is believed to correct the disturbed energy flow. Although the practice of acupuncture is based on different theories about disease than standard Western (European) medicine, scientific studies in humans show acupuncture can help migraine headaches, lower back pain and joint pain. The OHSU Neurology Wellness Clinic offers acupuncture for patients with neurological conditions. Ask your OHSU Brain Institute care team if acupuncture might be a good treatment option for you.
