Roger Garvin, MD
Residency Director
MD Degree: OHSU Residency: Family Medicine Spokane
Roger received his medical degree from Oregon Health and Science University in 1985. He completed his residency at Family Medicine Spokane and practiced 8 years of full spectrum care in a small town in Eastern Washington. He then spent 11 years on the faculty of the Spokane Family Medicine residency and completed a faculty development fellowship at the University of Washington. Dr Garvin is a diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine, a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, The Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine. He now serves as the Family Medicine Residency Director. Roger was born and raised in Oregon and enjoys bike touring with his family, running, cooking and reading.

Jessica Flynn, MD
Associate Residency Director
MD Degree: University of Michigan
Residency: Oregon Health & Science University
Dr. Flynn was born and raised in New York City. She attended University of Michigan undergraduate and medical school, and as an undergraduate was a French and Theater major, then returned to fulfill premedical requirements as a post-baccalaureate candidate. She worked as a medical assistant for a family physician while preparing to attend medical school, and moved to Portland for her OHSU Family Medicine residency in 2003.

Emily Meyers, MD
Associate Residency Director
Medical Degree: UC San Francisco
Residency: UC Davis

Listening and understanding are key parts of what Dr. Meyers does as a family physician. She has interests in women’s health, adolescent health, and preventive medicine, including nutrition, exercise, and stress management. In her free time, she spends time with her son and husband, as well as other family and friends in the region. She enjoys volunteering at her son’s school, trying out new recipes, running, walking the dog, and reading all sorts of books.

Marcy Lake, DO
Associate Residency Director
Dr. Lake is a native of Fort Collins, Colorado, and since graduating from high school, lived in 5 states and 3 countries. She headed to Chicago for medical school and chose to specialize in Family Medicine, because of the academic challenge that comes from its broad scope of practice. For almost 10 years, she cared for service members and their families as a member United States Navy. She enjoys reading, gardening, running, yoga, hiking, camping, traveling the world, playing and watching soccer, cycling, skiing, and enjoying good food with family and friends.
Joe Skariah, DO, MPH
Associate Residency Director
DO Degree: Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine
Residency: University of Wisconsin
Dr. Skariah's medical interests are varied and include population health, cancer prevention, medical school curriculum and disease prevention. Above all, he is interested in his patients. He joined OHSU Family Medicine at Scappoose in 2012 after some time in private practice because he was looking for rural practice and academic pursuits. His patients and the Scappoose staff make it a joy for him to come to work. Dr. Skariah is originally from Garland, Texas. Thanks to his daughter, he can sing all the songs from Disney's "Frozen" (in Spanish).
Ann Tseng, MD

Residency: Columbia Presbyterian Hospital
Dr. Tseng loves being able to care for patients of all ages. She values the relationships and continuity she is able to develop with patients and their families over time. In addition to her role as Medical Director and Associate Residency Director at Gabriel Park, she also has additional training in Travel Medicine and Global Health and runs the OHSU Travel Medicine Clinic at Gabriel Park. In her spare time, Dr. Tseng enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter. She loves farmers markets, cooking, and traveling.
Daisuke Yamashita, MD
Associate Residency Director
MD Degree: Shinsu UniversityResidency: Oregon Health & Science UniversityDaisuke was born in Tokyo and attended medical school in Shinshu University in Nagano. Nagano is a beautiful place and very similar to Oregon with mountains and rivers. It is part of the reason Daisuke fell in love with Portland. Before coming to Oregon, Daisuke was working at the Family Medicine clinic in northern Tokyo with a self-taught family doctor. Outside medicine Daisuke enjoys cooking, bicycling, repairing bicycles, and playing and listening to music.

Alex Verdieck, MD
Associate Education Residency Director
Residency: OHSU
Fellowship: Faculty Development, University of Washington
Dr Verdieck chose a career in Family Medicine because it allowed her to provide medical care in all of the fields that interest her including women's health, sports medicine, and preventative care. She returned to OHSU in 2009 to continue her clinical practice and resume her teaching interests. In her spare time, Dr. Verdieck enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 children.

Holly Hofkamp, M.D.

Residency: University of California, Los Angeles
Dr. Hofkamp enjoys family medicine because it gives her the opportunity to help individuals, families, and communities. She loves to see patients of all ages and genders and she has a particular interest in women's and adolescent health. She believes that good food, exercise, and a strong community can prevent many health problems. In her spare time, Dr. Hofkamp can be found outside hiking, biking, and paddling with her family and friends.
 
Anthony Cheng, M.D.

Anthony grew up in Hershey, PA, where the smell of chocolate enhances the view of cow pastures and cornfields. An explorer at heart, he has enjoyed traveling and meeting people from Central America, Europe and Asia while moving slowly west. He loves learning, especially about what makes people tick. As a physician, Anthony's goal is to help you optimize your health so you can do what is important to you and your family. Anthony has a special interest in pediatrics and adolescent health, LGBTQ care, transgender care, PrEP, and Medication-Assisted Treatment for opioid use disorder, obstetrics and gynecology, diabetes, mental health, dermatology, cardiovascular disease, integrative medicine and end of life care..

Carol Blenning, M.D.
MD Degree: University of California, San Diego Residency: University of Southern California, California Hospital Medical Center
After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Biology from Stanford University in 1984, Dr. Blenning went on to receive her M.D. from the University of California, San Diego in 1988. She completed residency in 1991 at USC-California Medical Center in Los Angeles and then practiced at a non-profit community health center in South Central LA for five years. She is an Associate Professor and has practiced at Family Medicine at Richmond since 1996.
 
Sonja Borgstrom, M.D.
MD degree: Albany Medical Center
Residency: Albany Medical Center
Dr. Borgstrom enjoys caring for patients of all ages and working in partnership with them to improve their health. She appreciates the opportunity as a primary care provider to develop long-term relationships with patients in order to better address individual circumstances and heath care needs. Her special interests as a provider include women's health, maternal-child health and global health. Outside of work, Dr. Borgstrom enjoys spending time with her family, including her rescue Border Collie and her still-a-bit feral cat. She has travelled to or lived in Europe, Asia, Africa and Central America and valued the chance to understand family life in other cultures. She also enjoys reading novels, discussing politics and most activities involving water, including swimming and kayaking.
 
Rebecca Cantone, M.D.
MD Degree: Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
Residency: University of California, Davis
Dr. Cantone has trained in the field of family medicine in Chicago, IL, Sacramento, CA, and now Portland, OR. She greatly enjoys the continuity of patient care and building long term therapeutic relationships. She is interested in a wide variety of preventative medicine and disease management and continually seeks to broaden her abilities to care for all patients with any health problem. In her free time, Dr. Cantone enjoys running, playing the piano and singing, and spending time with friends and family.

Brian Frank, M.D.
MD Degree: Oregon Health & Science University
Residency: Providence Milwaukie
Dr. Frank is excited to be returning to OHSU, working with residents and medical students, and helping his patients gain a better understanding of their health through collaborative care and healthy lifestyle choices. Dr. Frank likes cooking, riding his bike, running, gardening, and spending time with his family.

Timothy Herrick, M.D., M.S.
Residency: Northwestern University School of Medicine
Dr. Herrick enjoys being part of the team at OHSU, helping patients deal with the variety of their health issues, in their family and community context. He spent more than 20 years as a physician in Africa, and is an expert in tropical disease and illness prevention. He is board certified in Family Medicine, studied Tropical Medicine in Paris, Marseille and West Virginia and is certified in Tropical Medicine by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Health. Dr. Herrick enjoys biking, hiking and jogging, is an avid foodie and sports fan, especially when he, his wife and two sons are involved, loves exploring faith issues, and also enjoys reading and writing, and listening to and performing music.


Timothy Joslin, M.D.
MD Degree: George Washington School of Medicine
Residency: Oregon Health & Science University
Dr. Joslin grew up in Federal Way, WA, and attended the University of Puget Sound where he studied molecular biology. He then went on to attend George Washington University in Washington, DC, where he completed his medical degree. Dr. Joslin's professional interests are broad, including sports medicine, geriatrics, full spectrum family medicine, including the care of pregnant women and children. He enjoys gardening, running and bicycle riding. On the weekends in the fall you can find him racing his cyclocross bicycle through the mud and rain.

Steven Wahls, M.D., F.A.A.F.P.
MD Degree: Rush University College of Medicine
Residency: Christ Hospital Family Medicine Residency
After completing his Family Medicine specialty training in Chicago, Dr. Wahls practiced in Roseburg for 24 years where he was a co- founder of Evergreen Family Medicine. He has enjoyed long-term patient relationships and the privilege of knowing people on a personal level and helping families navigate the opportunities of health. Dr. Wahls' practice location is Scappoose, and he mentors residents at OHSU Family Medicine Richmond one day each week. Dr. Wahls is a designated FAA Senior Medical Examiner, and performs pilot medical exams and consultation at Scappoose and at the South Waterfront office.

Eric Wiser, M.D.
MD Degree: Temple University School of Medicine
Residency: St. Vincent Family Medicine Residency
Dr. Eric Wiser was born and raised in between small towns in Pennsylvania where he completed most of his education. After leaving Pennsylvania for Spokane to complete fellowship, Dr. Wiser moved to Oregon and practiced in a small town. He and his wife, Dr. Amy Wiser (OHSU Family Medicine at South Waterfront), started a practice together in Sublimity and practiced full-scope family medicine there for five years. He enjoys the comprehensiveness of family medicine, and he cherishes the personal relationships that form between patients and family physicians. As the offspring of two public school teachers, he values education and believes that patients should know as much about their health as their provider, and he tries to eliminate any barriers that patients may encounter while navigating this complex medical environment. In his spare time, Eric enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter. He spends time training for triathlons and has completed multiple Ironman events. He also enjoys time outside hiking, biking and fly fishing.

Rita Lahlou, M.D.
MD Degree: University of Virginia
Residency: OHSU Family Medicine
Dr. Lahlou was born in Morocco, to the two most loving and selfless people she knows. Early childhood was spent first in Rabat, Morocco, then in Norman, OK, where her brilliant little brother was born, and finally in Centreville, VA. Growing up in a suburb of Washington, DC, gave Dr. Lahlou the opportunity to befriend people from all over the world, to be involved in national politics and to spend long, hot summer days at the pool. After high school, Dr. Lahlou headed a few hours south to go to college at the University of Virginia, where she spent her time studying bioethics, catching live concerts, and hiking in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. After four years in Charlottesville, Dr. Lahlou headed further south to attend medical and public health school at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. There, she began to develop her professional interests in prevention, chronic diseases, maternal and child health, systems of health care and medical education. She also developed her personal interests in yoga, by training to be a yoga teacher, and in gardening and bread baking.

Courtney is a proud Oregon Duck alumna and received her Master's in English from Portland State University. After living in San Diego, Louisiana, and Hawaii, she is happy to be back in the beautiful northwest. She loves Law &Order, politics, sports, and her rambunctious Labradoodle, Zoey. A dream of hers is to be on the Amazing Race, despite her fear of heights, selective eating, and lack of map reading skills. Courtney is thankful for the opportunity to get to know residents and loves investing in resident wellness and helping residents achieve their future work and personal goals.

Maria Sampson grew up in Portland, OR and attended the University of Oregon earning a B.S. in Psychology. Maria has been with family medicine for over 3 years. She greatly enjoys working with the passionate group of Family Medicine Residents and Faculty. Being a native Oregonian, Maria enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle;hiking, camping, kayaking, snowboarding.


Brittany enjoys working with residents to define their Areas of Concentration in order to have great elective opportunities and successful Capstone projects. She is passionate about resident wellness and is often found helping plan wellness gatherings, hosting summer barbeques, and Thanksgiving meals for the residents. In her free time, she enjoys trying new eateries in PDX, volunteering, and spending time with friends and family.

With a background in administration and medical care, Anna is excited to be able to participate in the fantastic educational atmosphere that the OHSU Family Medicine Residency provides. When not at work, Anna spends most of her time playing soccer, skiing, traveling around the PNW, or cooking with friends.

Previously she worked as a retail supervisor in a yarn store, now she's enjoying learning the ins and outs of residency and working with all the fine folks in Family Medicine. She spends her free time with her two ferocious cats knitting hats and biking around Portland, OR.
