Research & Scholarship
Welcome to Family Medicine Research!
OHSU Family Medicine is committed to developing and disseminating innovative and vital research in the area of primary care. Over the past decade, the department’s Research Section has seen a tremendous growth in its research enterprise in both the number of faculty involved in research as well as its scope across disciplines. In 2005, the department recruited Patricia A. Carney, Ph.D. from Dartmouth whose specialty in breast cancer research and evaluation methods have proven invaluable to the overall breadth and national recognition of the OHSU Family Medicine Research Section.
Further expanding upon the growth, the department was awarded a $2 million dollar endowment from Kaiser Permanente for an Endowed Professor of Evidence Based Medicine. Through an extensive search, the department selected Richard A. Deyo, MD, MPH, from the University of Washington to serve in this role. Since his start in 2007, Dr. Deyo has brought with him a wealth of research and mentoring experience and has contributed greatly to the research community as the Director of the Community & Practice Research Program in the Oregon Clinical and Translational Research Institute (OCTRI).
The Family Medicine Research Section is represented by a community of clinicians, researchers, research associates, and research administrative staff that work together as a team to nurture ideas and formulate them from research into practice. Besides offering mentoring and consultation for faculty by senior researchers, the Research Section has a fully developed support services office that provides assistance with identifying research funding, budget development, grant applications, and grants management.
