Hypnosis in Dentistry Study Club
with J. Henry Clarke, DMD
Hypnosis in Dentistry Participation Study Club for Dentists
For the last 50 years, the American Medical Association and the American Dental Association have officially sanctioned clinical hypnosis as a fundamental part of medicine and dentistry. However, this valuable tool is still largely underutilized and misunderstood. This series, combined with lecture and clinical practice, will make clear what hypnosis is and is not, as well as covering various uses in dentistry, success rates, opportunities for further study and integrating hypnosis into a dental practice. Each session will allow time for lecture, clinical demonstration and supervised clinical practice.
We will expand on the topics covered in the original half-day seminar by adding instruction, demonstration and practice in the following areas:
• Patient selection and preparation
• Principles and techniques of induction and re-alerting
• Informal techniques
• Management of Dental Fear, Bruxism/clenching, Hyperactive Gag Reflex, Procedural and Post-operative pain, and possibly, other appropriate topics requested by the group.
