J. Henry Clarke, DMD, M.S.

Dr. Clarke is a Professor Emeritus at Oregon Health & Science University School of Dentistry.He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from

Dr. Clarke has taught History of Science at Portland State University and currently lectures on History of Anesthesia at the OHSU School of Medicine.At the OHSU School of Dentistry, he teaches History of Dentistry, Preventive Dentistry, Local Anesthesia, Patient Management, Clinical Hypnosis, and Dental Journalism.

He is a Past President of the American Academy of the History of Dentistry.In 1992, he was awarded that organization's highest award, the Hayden-Harris Award, for his contributions to dental history.

He lectures throughout the United States and has appeared frequently on television regarding dental history and hypnosis in dentistry.

Dr. Clarke is President of the American Board of Hypnosis in Dentistry and an approved Consultant for the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.He has served that organization as a member of the Executive Committee, numerous committee assignments and part of its national teaching faculty for over 20 years.He has conducted research, authored numerous articles on dental history and book chapters on Regional Anesthesia, History of Anesthesia in Oregon and Clinical Hypnosis.In 1991 he received the Milton H. Erickson Award for Scientific Excellence for his research and writing on Hypnosis.

He has received numerous awards as an outstanding instructor.
