Welcome to the OHSU IM Residency Program!

We are committed to training outstanding general internists. Whether you are destined for primary care, hospital medicine, or a subspecialty, we want you to walk away with the foundational knowledge and skills that will help you to thrive in your career. We empower our residents with the support, mentorship, and opportunities necessary to fully explore their interests and become future leaders in their chosen fields. We believe strongly in the importance of fostering a culture of belonging, such that everyone feels heard, valued, and respected. Some highlights of our program include diverse clinical experiences across multiple training sites, innovative curricula (advocacy, social medicine, health systems science, POCUS), supportive faculty who care deeply for our residents, and a collaborative community that is dedicated to lifelong learning, health equity, and relief of suffering.

Our mission is to develop exceptional and compassionate physicians from diverse backgrounds through the care of our community, dedication to and advocacy for the underserved, delivery of high value, evidence-based care, and engagement with scholarship to foster ongoing intellectual curiosity. We inspire learners to develop flexible and adaptable skillsets to navigate a changing healthcare environment, pursue personal interests, be leaders in their communities, and serve as proponents of social change with an understanding of equity and justice in healthcare.

When I was a medical student at OHSU, I knew with certainty that this was where I wanted to spend my career. I moved away for residency and fellowship to broaden my horizons, knowing that I would return—and I am so grateful that I did. My experience is not unique; you’ll meet lots of “lifers” here who tell similar stories, and many of our graduates stay on as faculty or fellows. OHSU is truly a special place.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We hope that you walk away with an understanding of our program, what we offer, and what makes us unique. We are thrilled that you are considering us for your future training and look forward to the opportunity to connect with you!

Sincerely,
