Excellence in clinical care
We are dedicated to providing the best care in Oregon for adults with infectious diseases.
Clinical focus areas of the division include:
- Transplant infectious diseases: A high-volume, dedicated service managing infections in solid organ (heart, liver, kidney, pancreas) and hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients, as well as CAR T-cell therapy, leukemia and lymphoma patients.
- Mycobacterial diseases: A regional referral cornerstone for the Pacific Northwest, specializing in the management of nontuberculous mycobacterial infections and tuberculosis through a multidisciplinary lens.
- Antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention: Faculty-led programmatic initiatives that drive health system policy and provide a platform for quality improvement and implementation science.
- OPAT (Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy): A robust, faculty-led program that transitions high-acuity patients to community-based care with dedicated pharmacy and nursing support.
- The IMPACT Team & OPTIONS-DC: Nationally recognized collaboration with Addiction Medicine providing integrated care for hospitalized patients with substance use disorders (SUD). Our unique OPTIONS-DC model is a multidisciplinary conference for complex discharge planning.
Infectious disease research
OHSU has a robust research ecosystem and a collaborative culture, including:
- World-class resources such as OHSU’s Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute, the OHSU-PSU Center for Infectious Disease Studies and OHSU Knight Cancer Institute
- Public health integration through active partnerships with the Oregon Health Authority
- Career development culture, prioritizing mentorship and protected time to allow faculty to secure NIH and foundation funding.
Education and training
Our ID Fellowship Program is a central pillar of the division, offering faculty significant opportunities for mentorship and teaching across clinician-educator and physician-scientist tracks.
Culture and benefits
We are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Division members are united by a shared purpose: improving the health of populations around Oregon and across the globe.
In the Division of Infectious Diseases, we value work-life balance. We aim to help division members build long, fulfilling careers through protected research time, mentorship structures and an accessible leadership team.
Life in Portland
The Pacific Northwest offers an exceptional quality of life. Portland is a vibrant, culturally rich city with a nationally recognized food scene, world-class arts and music and a strong sense of community. Plus, outdoor adventure at the Oregon Coast, the Columbia River Gorge and the Cascade Mountains are all within easy reach.
Community impact
The work of OHSU’s Division of Infectious Diseases extends well beyond the walls of our clinics and laboratories.
Whether through public health surveillance, outreach to rural and underserved populations or global infectious diseases research, we are driven by the belief that academic medicine carries a responsibility to serve — and that the best science makes a difference in people’s lives.
