Are you 16 - 19 years old?
Are you interested in a health care career and want to explore some possibilities?
MedStars may be for you.

MedStars is a residential summer experience at Oregon Health & Science University. This program is designed to help high school students learn how to pursue a health care career and health career options. The Area Health Education Centers Program sponsors the MedStars Health Careers Honors Program.

When is MedStars?

The next MedStars Camp will be held July 15-19, 2008.

Who Should Attend MedStars?

High School students who are 16-19 at the time of application and have completed their junior year of high school are eligible. Students from rural communities, particularly ethnic minority students, who have demonstrated their interest in a health career by participating in other health careers programs will be accepted into the program based on their letters of recommendation and application.

What does MedStars Cost?

Partial scholarships are available for eligible participants. The tuition for the program is $300, which includes three nights lodging, meals, transportation while in the program, and program materials. Contact the AHEC office for your county to inquire about a scholarship. Find your regional AHEC office from the table below. The table lists AHEC centers by county.

What will I do at MedStars?

You will analyze and integrate interests, abilities, strengths, weaknesses and other attributes related to achieving personal, social, educational and career goals. Analyze the world of work as specifically related to their career interests. Develop a two-year educational/career plan. Describe different health professional roles and articulate the value of those different roles. Understand how important teamwork is to patient care. Participate fully in a variety of engaging and fun learning activities.
