Kathryn Schabel - Assistant Professor, Orthopedics

April 2013 Golden Rose Recipient

Kathy Schabel - Assistant Professor, Orthopedics

On a day to day basis, while working at the main information desk, I receive comments from guests about their experiences in our hospital. I encourage them to fill out the surveys to let us know how we are doing, but most often, patients are simply content sharing their story with me. After consistently receiving feedback concerning one particular staff member, I simply can't sit on my hands and let her go unrecognized for the work that she does.

It brings me great pride to recognize the service excellence of Dr. Schabel. On a consistent basis, I hear patients and their families describe how Dr. Schabel is committed the care of her patients and her diligence ensuring the best decisions are being made for the patient, in regards to surgeries, recovery care, etc. These families appreciate her abilities as a surgeon and her empathetic approach as a person.

With that being said, I would like to now share my story. Dr. Schabel consistently greets me by name and genuinely wants to know how I am doing when she see me walking through the halls. It doesn't matter if I'm in working in uniform or in everyday clothes, Dr. Schabel makes me feel important and that my contribution to the hospital/organization is valued.

It's these experiences that will resonate with me for years to come. I can't forget the fact that she is the "Queen of Orthopedics" and goes above and beyond with every single family she cares for. Her actions help create a work environment that I feel so proud to be a part. She deserves to be recognized for all of her efforts, as she is truly a special person. It's not very often that you get to meet people like that in your lifetime. It's a privilege to know you Dr. Schabel, keep on keepin' on!
